Launching of SDA Ushers ministry handbook

Castries, Saint Lucia – January 19th, 2016

Ushers-HandbookThe Saint Lucia Mission of Seventh-day Adventists launched its Ushers for Christ Ministry official handbook at a ceremony held at its headquarters in Lanse Road. The handbook is the first of its kind in the Caribbean which made its unveiling extremely exciting for those in attendance. Addressing the ceremony was the Treasurer of the Mission Ms Rose Mary Desir, Pastor Lucius Philip, Personal Ministries Director and Mrs Vanessa Julien, President of the Saint Lucia SDA Ushers For Christ ministry. Speaking on the necessity of the handbook, Mrs Julien said “over the years when participating in Ushering activities on behalf of the church, I have been frequently asked about this ministry of hospitality, its history, its function, including the spiritual role and why so many church members are attracted in serving as an Usher. The answers are all found in this handbook”. She further stated” We pattern this ministry after Jesus Christ who is our first helper, our first Usher. He takes care of our every need, He made the beautiful Garden of Eden, a home for Adam and Eve and served them”.

The SDA Ushers For Christ Ministry have been serving since 2009 when it was officially established by Mrs Denise Holder, a very dedicated member of the Adventist church community who saw the need for this ministry and steadfastly pursued its formation.

Over 250 trained Ushers make up the ministry and every year a new batch of Ushers are professionally trained. Besides serving at their church worship services and functions, which is its mission first and foremost, the Ushers also make its services available to the non-SDA community when they are called upon, as its Motto states “Saved To Serve”.

Ushers For Christ Handbook Launch

The content of the handbook is simple, with outlines of the roles and responsibilities of an Usher; what to do in every situation from ushering a visiting official to safety and security procedures. An important aspect of any servant of the Lord, serving in any ministry is to nurture their spiritual lives. This handbook shares some tips on helping in this area. Which reads in part from Page 12: “We are not islands onto ourselves. We are social beings. We thrive in healthy relationships. Every David needs a Jonathan. If we do not give our significant relationships, especially our families, the attention they need our performance and enthusiasm will suffer. It is also important to form new relationships in our new experiences whether at church, at work, or in our casual encounters. Keep contact with the people in your life. Christ didn’t intend for us to be loners. However, we are to weed out unhealthy relationships. Our company influences our lives. Balance requires responsible social interrelationship.”

The Handbook is distributed to trained Ushers of the SDA community through the Ushers For Christ Council ministry.

The Saint Lucia Mission of Seventh-day Adventists was formed in 1999 and it oversees close to 50 congregations on the island.
