CASTRIES, Saint Lucia, November 21, 2019 – The Seventh-day Adventist Ushers for Christ Council (SDAUFCC), guided by its motto, “Saved to Serve,” celebrates ten years of service and ministry (2009 – 2019) this month. It’s over four hundred ushers from around the island received training in various areas of service and hospitality including: church and government protocol, conflict management, effective communication, food service and basic first aid to name a few. Facilitators include local church pastors and other experts in their field such as the National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO) and the Saint Lucia Fire and Emergency Services who provide training in disaster preparedness and safety procedures. The SDA Ushers provide hospitality services to its church family at worship services and special events, including but not limited to, greeting, welcoming, and ushering to seats. The ushers also extend their services to other denominations and community organisations when requested.
The highlight of the celebratory milestone is a grand thanksgiving church service at the Marc SDA church, on Saturday, November 30th, 2019.
According to the President, Vanessa Julien, “The ushers will gather to celebrate God’s goodness to us. The keynote speaker at our church service will be the President of Saint Lucia Mission of SDA, Pastor Roger Stephen. We will also be hosting our 7th annual graduation ceremony, where 35 newly trained ushers, who completed the professional certification training programme in July this year, will receive graduation honours. The founder of the SDAUFCC, Denise Fontenelle-Holder, will be the guest speaker at the graduation exercise.”
Pastor Lucius Philip, the Personal Ministries Director of the Saint Lucia Mission shared, “we are excited at this milestone celebration. The Ushers not only serve but they do it joyfully and provide quality service. They have made an active and valuable contribution to the hospitality of members and visitors at our convocations and special services. We commend the Ushers For Christ Council under the leadership of Vanessa Julien for their sacrificial service”.
The SDAUFCC has also been impacting communities on the island through their outreach work by serving hot meals and organising clean-up activities yearly. They are identified at functions by their official uniform; navy blue skirt suit for ladies with pink scarfs and navy blue vests and pants, white shirt and blue tie for gentlemen. On worships days they are happy to welcome you at any Adventist church on the island dressed in various colours depending on which congregation you visit.
